Origin of Hyochoan

A drifting bird hermitage is the thing which Tadayuki Tatsuno named it when he of the founder opens Shinshu soba restaurant in the present location in about 1960.

The Hyochoan (漂鳥庵) consists of the meaning of the kanji.

  • The kanji of "漂" transcribes a Romaji into HYO and is a meaning of drifting.

  • The kanji of "鳥" transcribes a Romaji into CHO and is the meaning of the bird.

  • The kanji of "漂鳥" transcribes a Romaji into HYOCHO and is the meaning of a drifting bird.

  • The kanji of "庵" transcribes a Romaji into AN and is the meaning of the hermitage.

  • "The drifting bird" drifts on the plains in the cold winter and when it is hot summer, "the drifting bird" moves to the plateau and enjoys the cool air.

  • It is called movement summering(避暑) same as a drifting bird in the human being society.

  • Tadayuki Tatsuno named it "Hyochoan(=a drifting bird hermitage)" to impress it with there being a summering hermitage in the environment that a wild bird flew about abundantly.
